Senior Programs
Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Inc. is the sponsoring agency for two Senior Programs; the Foster Grandparent (FG), and Caring Companion (CC) programs. Our goal is to promote independence and enhance the dignity of older and disabled persons and their families through a community-based system of opportunities and services.
Become a Volunteer:
Foster Grandparent volunteers share their experiences and talents to improve the lives of children in need. You can help children develop the skills, confidence, and strength to succeed in life. Foster Grandparents make their neighborhoods stronger by helping children with special/exceptional needs achieve their goals. Foster Grandparents are placed in non-profit settings such as public/private schools, daycare centers, development achievement centers and juvenile centers. Counties served in Minnesota are Becker, Clay, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau counties. Counties served in North Dakota are Barnes, Benson, Cass, Cavalier, Grand Forks, Griggs, Peirce, Ramsey, Richland, Sargent, Trail and Walsh counties.

For an elderly person, Caring Companion volunteers may be the difference between self-reliance and mere survival. With your assistance, older people receive extra help so they can remain independently in their own homes without premature nursing home placement. Counties served are Clay, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau.

Receive Caring Companion Assistance:
The Caring Companion Program is an essential community-based service based on the principle that in-home care can help prevent premature nursing home placement. Caring Companions are adults 50 and older who assist seniors to achieve this goal. They can help with grocery shopping, letter writing, and transportation to medical appointments and are there to be a friend. For more information contact the Caring Companion Program at 1-800-584-7020 or 218-281-5832 or email Marley.Melbye@tvoc.org.
